Sweet and Sour Meatballs
These Asian-inspired meatballs are simply delicious! The sauce has a little bit of heat, but it is beautifully balanced with the addition of soy sauce. Enjoy as an appetizer or a main meal.
Meatballs 1 lb. ground chicken or turkey 1/2 C. breadcrumbs 1 egg 1/4 C. finely minced onion 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. black pepper Sauce: 1 jar Tait Farm Apple Pepper Jelly 2 Tbs. tamari soy sauce 1/4 tsp. garlic powder Garnish: freshly chopped cilantro chopped peanuts or slivered almonds (optional) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all the meatball ingredients. Form into small meatballs – 1” to 1 1/4 ”. Place in a single layer on a greased baking tray. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until just cooked through. Timing depends on the size of the meatballs. While meatballs are baking, in a small saucepan combine the pepper jelly, soy sauce, and garlic powder. Stir over medium-low heat until melted. When ready to serve, pour sauce over the hot meatballs. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve immediately. As an appetizer, serve with toothpicks, and as a main course, serve on a bed of cabbage/carrot slaw or rice. |
