Tait Farm Native Plants
"If half of American lawns were replaced with native plants, we would create the equivalent of a 20 million acre national park, nine times bigger than Yellowstone or 100 times bigger than Shenandoah National Park."
- Doug Tallamy, Professor of Entomology
Pennsylvania Native Plants are those that occur naturally in our state and region. Native plants include all kinds of plants from mosses and ferns to wildflowers, shrubs, and trees. These Native Plants are often easier to grow, require less maintenance such as watering, and are less susceptible to challenging conditions than non-native plants. Incorporating native plants in your home landscape will encourage birds, pollinators, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.
For all of these reasons, Tait Farm's Ridge & Valley Native Plant System was developed in Summer 2018. This natural habitat will allow us to collect seeds to propagate more native plants to offer our community gardeners and homeowners in Tait Farm's Greenhouse so that they may create their own native habitats for wildlife, especially endangered pollinators.
