What
is Shrub? We can't even tell you how many times we have been
asked this question. The word Shrub comes from the Arabic word sharab,
which literally means to drink. In the dictionary, Shrub is defined
as an acid fruit drink.
Our fruit shrubs are based on Colonial era recipes and are drink
concentrates made with our fresh fruit vinegars, unbleached cane
sugar, honey and spices. They can be mixed with sparkling water
(1 part Shrub to 8 parts water) to make festive non-alcoholic
drinks, also to flavor wine and champagne, or used as an ingredient
in many delicious dishes ranging from fruit salsas to desserts.
Of contemporary historical significance, our Fruit Shrubs have been featured in the Wall Street Journal and are sold to many historical sites including Colonial Williamsburg. Our Fruit Shrub drinks are also served at The City Tavern Restaurant in Philadelphia.
